DOUBLE EXPOSURE: How to fake it in Photoshop

Let’s begin here: What Exactly Is a “Double Exposure?”

Also known as a “multiple exposure,” a double exposure is the result of combining two images to create one.  In film, a double exposure is created when the shutter is opened more than once, exposing (most often) two different images on the same frame.  This can also be achieved with various digital cameras as well. The complete list of these can be found on the Neocamera site. (Scroll sideways once on the site)

For the rest of us who may not own a Mark D III or any of the other various cameras that can do this technique “in house,” we have to rely on good ol’ photoshop.

How to “Fake” it.

Here’s a quick video tutorial that shows you, in under 5 minutes, two super easy ways to double expose in Photoshop!

(The secret is in blending modes and layer masks – watch how easy it is!)
